Annual MOT supported by Motor Codes - February,12
Automotive industry self-regulatory body Motor Codes has responded positively to the announcement that the annual MOT test is to be maintained for all vehicles.
Motor Codes managing director Chris Mason said the Department for Transport's decision to keep the test an annual requirement is a positive move and it will help raise standards for all road users following the incorporation of the MOT into the industry code of practice.
"Retaining a regular MOT test provides a safety net for motorists, ensuring that vehicles are maintained to roadworthy standards, but focusing on the customer experience is equally important," he noted.
Furthermore, the introduction of stricter guidelines for garages carrying out MOTs will further raise safety standards for UK drivers.
Mr Mason's comments follow those of road safety charity Brake's chief executive Julie Townsend, who claimed reducing the frequency of MOTs would have led to more accidents and lives being needlessly lost as many vehicles became unroadworthy without their owners being aware.
